Wonder Guide – Wine in London

Berry Bros. & Rudd

Founded in 1698, Berry Bros. & Rudd is Britain’s original, family-owned wine and spirits merchant. With two Royal Warrants, more than 300 years of history and six Masters of Wine, Berry Bros. & Rudd are proud of their world-class reputation for exceptional wines and spirits.

Although hundreds of years old, Berry Bros. & Rudd remains at the forefront of wine innovation. The current range of more than 4,000 wines is sourced from over 25 countries, from the traditional – France, Italy and Spain – to the less traditional – Brazil and Moldova.

Not just a fine wine retailer, spirits have long been central to the business. The spirits portfolio includes the classic No.3 London Dry Gin, Mauritian rum Penny Blue and the unique and historic The King’s Ginger Liqueur. Most recently the Texas Legation, a bourbon from Texas was added to the line-up.

Berry Bros. & Rudd now boasts the expertise of six Masters of Wine, more than any other company, we have never been better placed to provide our customers with the most extensive wine knowledge.

The London Shop at 3 St James’s Street has changed little since it was opened in 1698.

10 Cases

The 10 Cases Bistrot a Vin was opened in 2011 by old friends, Will Palmer and Ian Campbell. Fed up by static, predictable and overpriced wine lists, they decided to open a place with a fairly priced, constantly changing, unpretentious and fun wine offering.

The 10 Cases is a buzzing intimate restaurant, built around a short list of 10 White, 10 Red, Sparkling, Rose and Sweet wines of which everything is available by-the-glass/carafe/bottle and purchased always in 10 Case orders.

In years of trading the same wine has not been listed twice. The food offering is similarly monthly changing and built around 3 starters/3 mains/3 desserts as well as a range of wine-friendly tapas style dishes and daily changing specials.

In 2013 the team decided to make the logical expansion next door with the Cave a Vin; wine bar, shop and cellar. Offering the same food menu but on a walk-in only basis, the wine list is what sets the Cave apart from the Bistrot. Another 16+ regularly changing fine wines are offered by-the-glass as well as 300+ listings from classic wine producing countries all over the world, offered at retail to take-away or with an additional £12 corkage to enjoy on the premise.

The core ethos of fine wine and food, at great value in a fun, friendly and dynamic space with knowledgeable and enthusiastic staff is what continues to drive the Bistrot and Cave as such exciting places to drink wine in London.

Borough Wines

Borough Wines began life as a small stall on London’s Borough Market in 2002. Today there are seven Borough Wines Shops London–wide, with another in the seaside town of Hastings. Our wholesale arm Borough Wines Imports supplies the on–trade and independent retailers, including over ten Borough Wines Corners nationwide.

The range is still handpicked, but now contains over three hundred wines—including a number of natural, organic and biodynamic bottles—as well as a diverse selection of local and international craft beers and boutique spirits. Borough Wines also pioneered the environment (and wallet!) friendly wine and beer refill system.

Hedonism Wines

Established in August 2012 & located in the heart of London’s Mayfair, Hedonism is a fine wine & spirits boutique which has already become the most talked about wine project of recent times.

The hedonistic way of thinking originated in the early Greek philosophic schools where it was believed that pleasure was the only intrinsic good. However, we firmly believe that there are many things which one should enjoy in life & with the word “hedonism” frequently used in tasting notes wine is certainly one of them. What better name for a shop which stocks the finest & rarest wines & spirits?

The UK’s best buyers have sourced around 6,500 wines & 3,000 spirits, taking the crème de la crème from each region of the world whilst carefully checking the provenance of every bottle.

From classics including the Macallan 1946 Select Reserve, Highland Park 50YO, Ararat Noyan Tapan 70YO &  a magnum of Domaine de la Romanée Conti Romanée Conti 1966 to a vast collection of the outrageous & quirky Sine Qua Non, a complete vertical of Masseto, Torbreck The Laird 2006 in a spectacular 27-litre bottle & a whole host of old & rare liqueurs, gins & vodkas.

Bedales Wines

A wine bar and shop in the heart of london’s most iconic markets

Bedales of Borough is an exploratory wine bar that rewards curiosity, with three locations in Borough, Spitalfields and Leadenhall Markets. Hosing wine explorers for spontaneous and honest experiences.

Bedales compliments their wine with small seasonal plates of meat & cheese, with ingredients sourced from Borough Market. Executive Chef Morgwn Preston-Jones has created an in-house charcuterie programme, which makes our meat & cheese offerings incomparable.  The menu changes regularly, as it is dependent on the market.

If your looking for something to do on a Sunday – Its Bedales favourite day of the week! All bottles of wines are discounted when you purchase a meat & cheese platter, AND they host Sunday Sessions, a free, live music event, every week.

Just a note that you have to go to the Wine Bar to purchase your wines to take home….. the perfect excuse to go wine tasting.
