Eggnog – Cocktail of the Week

It’s eggnog season! Custard & Booze… what a tremendous combination.

December is when you can have just about anything laced with alcohol, Just in case you’ve never tried this tasty beverage, it’s a lot like a custard dessert in a glass. In fact, eggs are one on the main ingredients in custard desserts, so this really isn’t that far off.

If you can’t be bothered to make it at home here are our top places that offer the decedent drink.

Hix Eggnog at Hix, Soho

His Eggnog is made from Clarence Court eggs, Somerset cider brandy, dark rum, sherry and a dusting of cinnamon and nutmeg with milk, sugar and cream.

Hix’s head bartender Dustin MacMillan acquired the original recipe from Mark Hix himself and says ‘this is the good stuff which will instantly make you a believer in the power of the ‘nog!’.


Chai Eggnog at Dishoom

Dishoom creates cosy food and drink with a Bombay twist, and their eggnog is no exception. Traditional eggnog is mixed with Gosling’s Black Seal Rum, chai spices, nutmeg and cinnamon. You can have the Chai Egg Nog as part of the wider Christmas feasting menu at the restaurant, which includes a slow-cooked whole turkey leg, small plates and grills.


House Eggnog at Hide and Demon, Wise & Partners

The Hide and Demon, Wise & Partners serve their ‘nogs with Wild Turkey bourbon, spiced pimento syrup, Hidalgo Alameda sherry, cream and nutmeg. It’s a suitably rich affair for the festive season, with plenty of spice and a good kick.
