1 – Six Senses Douro Valley, Douro Valley, Portugal

This really is somewhere very special, wellness is in the heart and soul of Mii Amo. The resort and refuge where guests can book programs called ‘Journeys,’ offering more than 100 activities to suit every sort of spa-lover, from yoga to stargazing classes, chanting lessons, barre, tennis, and more, along with spa treatments administered by some of the industry’s best.

All bedrooms are surrounded by courtyard artfully arranged in a private enclave of casitas shaded by cottonwood trees, Mii amo’s 16 guest rooms and suites offer the utmost in luxury and intimacy.

The restaurant churns out health-conscious dishes made with seasonal produce, and the juice bar is on hand for detox juices and smoothies—but don’t fear its not a complete detox, rest assured the wine and cocktails flow freely. Thank Bacchus for that!  



3. Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, Baden-Baden, Germany

If we haven’t convinced you already maybe the medical spa will confirm your need to book Brenner’s immediately. The spa offers everything from aesthetic dentistry and dermatology set in classic country house style.

Brenners Park-Hotel & Spa, set in a valley in the Black Forest Mountains overlooking the tree-lined Lichtentaler Allée, has been around for nearly 145 years for a reason as it also neighbours the historic Baden-Baden thermal baths and springs, offering maximum opportunities for rejuvenation among its guests.

There’s also the rehabilitated Villa Stéphanie, a 15-room residential spa annex off the resort’s larger main building. Guests looking for a more intimate experience will surely appreciate the draw of a facial on one of the many terraces overlooking the bank of the river Oos.


4. Les Sources De Caudalie, Bordeaux, France 


Les Sources De Caudalie is not just a spa. It’s also a winery including three restaurants, one of which is the two-Michelin-star La Grand’Vigne, led by renowned chef Nicolas Mass and a collection of beautifully rustic-yet-contemporary rooms.

Just because the have nailed the restaurants and rooms doesn’t mean they have ignored the spa – Not just any spa, this is the Caudalie Vinothérapie Spa, the birthplace of Caudalie’s wine-based lotions and potions. There are 19 treatment rooms, three for couples and some with private barrel baths, and a small indoor swimming pool with built-in seats from which to admire the hotel’s picturesque grounds.

Caudalie employ recent scientific discoveries to squeeze each and every mineral out of their grapes and vines. If a single treatment isn’t decadent enough, book a full- or half-day ritual; couples can try the Vines for Lovers ritual, which includes a 50-minute facial treatment, a Fleur de Vigne candle massage and a romantic barrel bath filled with natural spring water drawn from 540 metres below the hotel.


5. Amanyangyun, Shanghai, China 

Housed in a series of restored buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasty, Amanyangyun is a resort immersed in history, culture and tradition that lies just a short drive from Shanghai’s city centre.
