Hotel of the week – Das Stue

Das Stue, situated in a neoclassical building with a gray stone facade, is a boutique hotel in Berlin steeped in history. Footsteps from Tiergarten—an urban park known as Berlin’s “green lung”—this 80-room establishment once belonged to the Royal Danish Embassy. Today, the hotel’s interior is cool and contemporary, with modernist stairways and chandeliers. In the lobby, a giant sculpture of a crocodile’s head welcomes visitors.

Spacious rooms boast curved bathtubs, flat-screen TVs and balconies that overlook Berlin Zoological Garden, home to nearly 4,000 animals. Paco Pérez, a Michelin-starred chef who fuses Catalan ingredients, presides over two restaurants. Cinco, one of the eateries, offers fresh seafood such as scallops and lobster dumplings. Guests can make the two-mile trip to the Brandenburg Gate, Berlin’s most famous 18th-century monument, after dinner at the restaurant.

Other on-site amenities include a gym, swimming pool and the Susanne Kaufmann Boutique SPA, which lures weary travelers who desire body and facial treatments after a long day of sightseeing. The hotel is just under five miles from Berlin Tegel Airport. Rooms range from $230 to $740 per night. Reserve your room online. Follow the hotel on Instagram.
