Born in Bristol, England, in 1985, Benedict moved to New York in 2009 after getting a degree in English literature and studying filmmaking, and discovering along the way a love for photography, and for portraiture.
Inspired as much by jazz and modernist architecture as by the great portraitists, and fascinated by the often fruitful tension between freedom and constraint, Benedict makes photographs in an attempt to distill shared moments into simple, elegant, and timeless portraits.
His reportage work takes aesthetic cues from midcentury photojournalism and war photography, but the same interpretative, subjective approach towards its subjects that his portraiture does.
